MEET BEE

Bee Quammie is a writer, media commentator, and public speaker. With a degree in Health Sciences from the University of Western Ontario, Bee spent over a decade in the healthcare industry (working in mental health research, international health, and acquired brain injury work) before transitioning to writing and media.

Bee started blogging in 2011, launching award-winning blogs focused on natural hair care, art and culture, and motherhood from the perspective of a Black Canadian mom. Bee has been recognized by Black Enterprise as one of the “most impactful and successful voices in the online space” and was the recipient of the Best Blogger Award at the 2014 Black Canadians Awards.

Blogging offered Bee the opportunity to grow as a freelance writer, gaining bylines in publications like The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, Men's Health, Macleans, Tripadvisor, Best Health, and many more. Bee writes frequently on topics surrounding parenting, race and culture, travel, food, feminism, fashion and beauty, health and wellness, and pop culture—and has cultivated a strong voice and dedicated audience. Bee is a skilled copywriter, working with organizations to craft messaging, copy, and communications.

Bee expanded her storytelling work by hosting radio shows on stations like Global News Radio and Flow 98.7FM, and co-produced and hosted her own podcast. She has been featured on Global’s ET Canada, CityTV’s Cityline, CTV’s The Social, and CBC, both radio and television. Bee is also a featured speaker with the National Speakers Bureau, presenting keynotes and sitting on or moderating panels across North America. In the community, she participates as a mentor in programs for young girls and women of colour, and produces and hosts events in the Greater Toronto Area surrounding feminism in film, the celebration of natural hair, and diversity in media. Bee has served as a director on the board for TAIBU Community Health Centre, which provides primary health care and health promotion programs and services to Black communities across the Greater Toronto Area.

Bee is an accomplished and multi-passionate creative and professional with a knack for storytelling, communication, and outreach, who will continue making an impact on the world around her for years to come. Bee’s debut book, The Book of Possibilities, is now available at your favourite bookstore. Sign up for Bee’s newsletter VIVRANT to follow along as she chooses her next adventure.
